Parish History

Holy Cross Church was opened by Fr Barlow on the 13 April, 1893. Helensburgh was, at the time, part of the Bulli Parish, not becoming a parish itself until 1911. By 1896, a Catholic School was operating in the Church with Miss Spellman being the teacher. In May 1900, Saint Mary MacKillop of the Cross personally visited Helensburgh to establish a convent and school run by the Sisters of St Joseph. The existing church was opened in 1986 by Bishop William Murray.

Fr Peter Tien is currently Parish Administrator at Holy Cross Helensburgh.
